1 EXT. SILVERADO TRAIL RD. NAPA, CA – DAY
We see a car moving along on a country road in between the vineyards. It’s February 2011.
1A INT. INSIDE THE CAR – DAY
MARYAM EFTEKHARI, 73, is driving and MEHDI QASHQAI, 72, is in the passenger’s seat. MEHDI is enjoying the scenery as MARYAM takes her eyes off the road to steal a peek at his face. He looks content. She smiles.
1B INT. NEW AGE RETREAT CENTER, NORTHERN CA, FEB. 2011 – DAY
A group of people, mostly couples in their mid 60’s to early 70’s, sitting on the floor in a circle. They all look Caucasian except for an Asian woman who is sitting with another woman and Mehdi with Iranian/middle eastern complexion. The workshop leaders, a couple in early 70’s, are wrapping up the introduction to a five day (M-F) workshop titled: Intimacy and Sexuality as We Age.

you have the opportunity to explore the possibilities that I am sure will delight you. let’s take a break. We’ll come back in fifteen minutes.
Camera focus on MEHDI sitting on the floor, startled. Others are interacting or getting up to get a drink from the counter. MARYAM sitting next to her thinking about what to say when a woman, NAZANIN, 67, approached her demanding her attention. She gets up and takes a couple of steps towards NAZANIN. After greeting and an uncomfortable gaze towards MEHDI, NAZANIN points to the counter with beverages on it and they walk towards it. MEHDI doesn’t bother to look.
You didn’t have to bring him!
Please don’t go there NAZANIN.
Why are you putting yourself through this? He is obviously in shock. Look, I think he is leaving!
MEHDI is getting up twisting towards the exit door. NAZANIN keeps her eyes fixed on him but MARYAM turns around and faces the counter.
He is part of my life now and in many ways I appreciate him and enjoy living with him. I brought him here because I wanted him to see this side of me. We have made it this far together and we’ll see what happens after this.
NAZANIN shows no interest in supporting MARYAM’s ambitions to grow her relationship with MEHDI.
And why did you come when you knew he was coming too?
I was hoping he wasn’t going to show up.
You know I don’t want to go there anymore.
You have been together for a year and a half and you guys haven’t had any physical intimacy never mind sex.
Mehdi is now walking through the door to leave the building. Nazanin gestures with her face towards Mehdi.
I told you he was leaving.
I better go see what he is up to.
2 EXT. OUTSIDE THE WORKSHOP BUILDING – DAY
There is no other building in sight, only trees and a creek near by. We see Mehdi’s face walking away from the building and in the background we see MARYAM running for a few steps then slows down to a walk. She looks intently at his back trying to read what is going on with him. He senses her behind him and stops while looking at the trees ahead. After he gets a better composer he turns around and looks at her intensely.
The first time I saw you I was mesmerizing and stunted by your beauty and the way you looked at me.
MARYAM freezes in place with a surprise look.
3 INT. MARYAM CHILDHOOD HOUSE, 1951, TEHRAN – AFTERNOON
We see MARYAM’s face at 13 then MEHDI at 12 standing still in the livingroom of a large luxury house. He looks mesmerized in clothing which are too big for him, with an awkwardly combed dry hair and a skin which looked roughed by the elements. He had arrived from rural Iran only a couple of days earlier.
